Emily's Independent

So I was feeling rather "tumblr" today, and came up with this. I'd love some feedback/constructive criticism on the whole album if anyone's willing, but this pic in particular. All of them are on my photo-page which I have posted everywhere.

  1. Any chance you can upload the album somewhere else for people (like me) who don't have a facebook.....?

  2. Also, put the text somewhere more "logical." Mid centered X and Y isn't exactly intuitive. Use the rule of thirds or a guideline in the picture for an axis. Also, I suggest a more natural color to match the theme; the mint isn't sampled from the picture so it doesn't look very natural... a sampled shade of brown can work.
Focus is another topic. If you look at the thumbnail it seems fine, but when viewed at full size it looks like the bottom right segment of the branch and some non-important branches are the only things in focus. If you increase the aperture even by 1.2 or so, you can capture all of the branches yet still maintain bokeh in the background. The focus creates a blurred effect that doesn't match the other blurs (depth of field effect, similar to a Gaussian blur), but instead a motion/fast blur. The fast blur makes the camera look like the photo was hand-cammed instead of on a tripod. If you did hand-cam it instead of using a tripod (which would probably be best for a still shot), then at least use a motion stabilizer or a stabilizing rig to fix the mini-wobbles/movements.
Also, the text. Don't make it so "bland." Although the font is an interesting one, I think the text object itself could be changed. Gradients almost always work, and so does slightly lowering the opacity.
I know that you have a good knowledge of cameras/photoshop and could easily improve these pictures. Adjusting settings, following things Mrs. Bruhn taught us such as the rule of thirds, and blending text are very important.

    1. Thanks! I think I like the text color and style, but I appreciate the opinion. I'll take your advice on the focus and stuff.

  3. I love this dialogue. Incredibly honest and clear! I'm a proud art parent.
